The manuscript now has a sense of place—and time
Murmuration Writing Companion now brings manuscript navigation and Story World chronology into the same review workflow.
The new Manuscript Navigator provides a compact view of the book’s parts and scenes in the left sidebar. It follows the active scene, shows titles rather than filenames, supports direct reordering, and keeps the sequence authoritative in ordinary Markdown. The same structure is used by Codex Press, so the order reviewed in Obsidian is the order compiled into PDF, EPUB, DOCX and manuscript Markdown.
World Context now gives events greater prominence. When a chapter references a dated Story World event, the Companion displays the event’s authoritative date alongside its position relative to the chapter. Long intervals can be presented as calendar years, months and days—for example:
1 year, 9 months, 5 days after Robin is Born
Automatic presentation keeps short intervals in days, while optional calendar, total-month and total-day views support more detailed chronology checks. The exact dates remain the authority; all relative timing is derived for review and is never written back as a second version of the story’s chronology.
Together, these changes make it easier to answer two essential questions while reviewing a novel:
Where am I in the manuscript?
When is this happening in the story?
